We come to the last of the 7 churches. The Church that made Jesus sick. This is the unsaved Church. In fact, if there were any believers in this church, they aren’t even referred to in the letter at all. Please make a note of the fact this time, it does not say the church of Laodicea but rather Laodicean. The word literally means “people ruled.”Thus, this church was people led rather than guided by the Lord. This city was a rich city and was famous for 3 industries ( Banking, Wool & Optomology), and all 3 are addressed in this letter. Laodicea received their water from hot springs in a city called Hierapolis, but by the time it got to Laodicea, it was lukewarm. Verse 17-18, are written with their main industries in mind. It mentions the white garment ( wool), Gold (banking), eyesalve ( Optomology). Notice the words poor, blind & naked. Verse 15 He says, “I know your deeds, period, and I’ve got no comment.” There isn’t anything good to say. If we are HOT for the Lord, he can use us. If you are Cold, he can convict us, but if you are lukewarm, you are not hot enough to use nor cold enough to correct. This is the state of the current church, the age we live in. Church today is people ruled. You see God has no place in this church. It is a compromising church, This letter is a stark warning to the church today, which wants to be an inclusive church. Let us get on FIRE for the Lord.
