The Church of Thyatira represents the Catholic church. This church emerges in the year A.D. 600 to 1517, till the time of the reformation. This is the only time in the Revelation Jesus identifies himself as Son Of God. He uses this reference because fire & brass speak of Judgement (v.18). Before the judgment, Jesus commends them for their work in 6 areas (V19). The church in Thyatira was founded by a woman named Lydia (Acts 16). Church of Thyatira was floundering because of a woman (V 20). To learn more about Jezebel read 1 king 21. Jezebel acquired the land with force much like the crusades during this period where the Catholic church slaughtered millions in the name of religion and to gain wealth. Please keep in mind fornication does not exclusively refer to sexual behavior. It can apply to a spiritual relationship with idolatry ( V 21). If such a spirit is not rejected, this type of church will go in tribulation (V 22). Not only Thyatira but churches that are like her will go through judgment (v 23). There is always a remnant that is faithful ( V 24). I believe The church of Thyatira refers to the Catholic church. I am not Catholic bashing. This is history. For 900 years, a vast amount of money, property, and treasures were accumulated by keeping people away from the word, selling indulgences( license to sin) and killing many.
