Promise Of God

See, I have set the land before you; go in and possess the land which the Lord [e]swore to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—to give to them and their descendants after them.’ Deuteronomy 1:8

Israelites are wandering in the wilderness for 40 years. As we looked at it a few weeks back, the journey was supposed to be only 11 days, yet it took so long. This week, I want to speak to you about God’s faithfulness and why we can depend on his promises. As we read, God does not say, I have set you free, you are many people, you are strong now go, and I will help you conquer the people. NO, He says I have set the land. Just go and possess it. Despite their constant bickering and doubting, God kept his part of the covenant which He made with Abraham back in Genesis chapter 15 and later reconfirmed with Issac & Jacob. God always keeps His promises. The Jews have only possessed a fraction of this land, although God set it all of for them. As we walk with God, it would do us well to stand on his promises. The scripture assures us that if we accept Christ, we will have eternal life. We can trust that because we can see whatever He has promised, He has delivered. Isralites doubted and did not know how they can defeat nations mightier than them and many times we get tangled in things like the rapture, Anti Christ and tribulation Etc. But, what we can take from this verse is, you might not know the answer for HOW, WHEN, WHERE, WHAT is going to happen but you can be sure it will happen because of the WHO that has promised us. Second, think I quickly want to mention is, Gospel of Mark give us the great commission ( Lord has set the land) Which tells us to go make disciples( take possession). We are to go out into the world and share the Gospel. This commandment is not just for pastors and evangelist but for ALL.
Let us not be like Israelites who wasted 40 years to claim the land and certainly let us not only claim the fraction BUT share with all those who God has set for us to bring into the kingdom. All we have to do is trust God and His promises. The promise of salvation, Promise of protection, Promises of provision, and Promise of eternal life and heavenly blessings. Let there be no doubt in your mind, If HE said it for me it settles it. Lastly, as you read further, God forbids them from going after the land of Seir and Moab, We will fail if we try to minister or do things which are outside of the will of God. Paul was forbidden to go and preach in Asia as well he was told to minister to Gentiles although he desired to preach to the Jews. But that was not the land that was set before him.  We must only go possess the land that God has set before us. Let us not go try to do things on our own strength and according to our minimal wisdom.
