Let God Go Before you

4 Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure. Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you must go, for you have not passed this way before.” Joshua 3:4
How many of us have a tendency to rush into things? How many of us pray to God for a problem in our lives and tell God exactly how to solve it? I know, I am certainly guilty of this. As we read the above verse, Israelites are at the bank of the Jordon River, and on the other side is the promised land. They have been wandering in the wilderness for 40 years, and now they can see the finish line. This is a wonderful chapter to understand the baptism of the Holy Spirit. As you see, as they crossed the Red Sea, they were baptized by water, but now, as they cross the Jordon river, it is the second baptism that is of the spirit. Of course, in this short devotion, I do not have time to explain the whole chapter, but those of you who like to think through such things study the chapter. Many times, we rush ahead of God, we are so excited to do ministry that we do not follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit. God knew his people were eager to enter the promised land. They were sitting for 3 days, and as time came to cross the Jordon river, God told them to follow the Ark at a distance of about half a mile. As we minister to other people, share Gospel with others, plan our outreach and evangelism, we must follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Let God go ahead and show us the way. As it was for Joshua, we are going into a foreign land, and if we move ahead of God, we might disrupt his plan. So next time you are ready to jump into a mission/ministry, spend some time in prayers, and I promise you, God will lead the way, and he never leads us astray. Amen
