Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to dwell there, for the famine was severe in the land.
Genesis 12:10 NKJV
Last week, we looked at the riches Abram acquired by going down to Egypt. BTW, just a side note, in scripture, you always go down to Egypt as Egypt represents the world & hell. And, you always go up to Jerusalem as that is the promised land/heaven. We are all in Egypt ( slaves to sin), and all are freed by the blood of the lamb and go through the wilderness ( walk of sanctification) to get to promise land ( eternal life). In the next few weeks, we will explore this in more details. In last week’s devotion, I mentioned that Abram disobedience created a problem which plagues us today. Some of you might have wondered what am I talking about? You see, as Abram was leaving Egypt he picked up slaves, one of the slaves was a young woman named Hagar and you know how that altered the God’s plan. From her came Ishmael and the Arab nation. It may seem like our disobedience is harmless, but in reality, we might pick up a Hagar, which in turn can affect not only our life but generations to come. Be careful, you don’t go down to Egypt & pick up a Hagar. You might think I avoided the famine and gained riches, all worked out, but you might hinder God’s plan and blessings he has in store for you. Trust him. His plan is perfect for us.
