Correction

Listen to counsel and accept discipline, that you may be wise the rest of your days.
Proverbs 19:20 NASB
None of us like to be criticized. We all know our shortcomings, yet we do not like to hear them. But God does use others to correct us. Throughout the scripture, we see an example of this. Moses & his father in law, David & Nathan, Paul & Peter, Abraham & King Abimelech. We need people in our lives who are going to provide counsel & correction. If you are surrounded by people who are just yes men or those who do not walk with Christ, your spiritual growth will suffer. And, when you do hear the counsel, please pay attention to it, instead of getting angry at the source or cutting them out of your life, listening & and acting upon it. Many of us only remember God & our Godly friends when there is a problem in our life. We call them to pray for us, but the rest of the time, we ignore them or avoid them. The above proverb teaches us differently. We need friends who are going to direct us and help us in our spiritual walk. Paul wrote a letter to the Church of Corinth, rebuking them for their behavior. In 2 Corinthians chapter 7, we see the joy Paul has because they listened & repented. How do you react when someone corrects you? Are you seeking wisdom? Then, pay attention to Godly counsel. May God direct you to your step. May he provide you the counsel you need, and May you be the counsel someone else needs. Have you shared the Gospel with someone today?
