Total Surrender

3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something at the [a]wheel. 4 And the vessel that he [b]made of clay was [c]marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make.5 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: 6 “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?” says the Lord. “Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand,

Adelaide Pollard was a life long believer, and she desired to go on a mission trip to Africa. But, in spite of her efforts and prayers, she was unable to raise the necessary funds for the trip. She was discouraged, frustrated, and at a loss. She attended a prayer meeting to find some peace, and at the meeting, she heard an elderly woman pray “it does not matter what you bring into our lives, just have your way with us.” That prayer bought peace to Adelaide. She went home that night and wrote the beautiful hymn, “Have thine own way.”
That night she studied Isaiah 64 and Jeremiah 18 and realized God was the potter, and she is the clay, and she was reminded that potter shapes the clay as He sees fit. She can trust God with her life. Today, I want to ask you, my brothers & sisters in Christ. Do you trust God with your life? If you are discouraged, troubled, and feel unrest in your heart, I like to encourage you with this beautiful hymn.
Have Thine own way, Lord, Have Thine own way;
Thou art the Potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me After Thy will,
While I am waiting, Yielded, and still.

Are you willing to completely surrender to the Lord? It is when we trust God with ALL in our life we see the fruits and blessing. Having a desire to go to Africa on a mission trip is a Nobel cause, yet Adelaide had to wait. Later on, she was able to make that trip. We have to wait on God’s time in our life. Maybe, you have been praying for lost loved one and you just can’t seem to understand why things are not changing, perhaps a sickness where there is no healing, maybe ministry that is not growing and that has left you frustrated. Today I just like to say wait on the Lord. It is during the time of waiting; He will mold you and make you. Learn to yield to Christ, waiting for him in prayer, and as Psalm 46 tells us, “Be still and know I am God.” As much as God is working on the situation, in this case, providing funds for Africa, He is teaching you to trust him and wait for His timing. It is the tough times in our life that grows our faith, and we grow closer to God. None of us are praying on our knees when we are full, and life is good, it is when we are hungry, and life is falling apart; that’s what drives us to our knees.
Remember, during the winter plant looks dry, frail and dead, but it is what happens under the earth in winter that allows it to be green and blooming in spring and summer. If you allow God, complete control of your life, you will see His purpose fulfilled in your life. You might feel like Peter who was sinking fast, like Sarai barren, like Joseph in pit and prison, like Daniel surrounded by lions, like paul shipwrecked, Perhaps you struggling with addiction or sickness for a long time and feel like man at the pool of Bethesda, or you are in darkness like a man who was blind from birth, maybe there is Goliath in your way, whatever your challenge is there is nothing impossible for God. Today, surrender All to Jesus. Let him have His way, and He promises us, He will never leave you or forsake you. If you trust Him, He will wash you whiter than snow and fill you with His Spirit, and He will reside in your Heart. Amen

Have Thine own way, Lord,
Have Thine own way;
Thou art the Potter,
I am the clay.
Mold me and make me
After Thy will,
While I am waiting,
Yielded and still.

2

Have Thine own way, Lord,
Have Thine own way;
Search me and try me,
Master, today.
Whiter than snow, Lord,
Wash me just now,
As in Thy presence
Humbly I bow.

3

Have Thine own way, Lord,
Have Thine own way;
Wounded and weary,
Help me, I pray.
Power, all power,
Surely is Thine,
Touch me and heal me,
Savior divine.

4

Have Thine own way, Lord,
Have Thine own way;
Hold o’er my being
Absolute sway.
Fill with Thy Spirit
Till all shall see
Christ only, always,
Living in me.
